I come from a bicultural family and am a dual citizen of both México and the United States. I consider myself part of a large, diverse community; a world citizen committed to promoting cultural pluralism. I work relationally and always do my best to employ an anti-oppressive model of thinking. My hope is to collaboratively build the therapeutic relationship with an equitable distribution of power (most often including humor and, yes, swearing). I also try to build that relationship without giving any decision-making power to outside sources, which is why Uncommon Mind does not accept insurance. Sessions may be covered by your out-of-network benefits, in which case I can provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Uncommon Mind is a justice-minded private practice. It is important to us that when clients are able to afford our Standard Rate, they do so. For those with limited resources, we determine our sliding fees on an individual basis, rather than by a set formula or scale. As availability permits, we offer flexibility according to what someone can reasonably afford by their own report. We hope this empowers minority and other marginalized identities who are financially disenfranchised to access mental health services when it would otherwise be burdensome or impossible. Groups that have been historically disempowered may include people of color, women, those of a lower socio-economic status, and so on. If you think you qualify for a negotiated rate, please reach out to have a simple human-to-human conversation about your circumstances.
